Mrs. Angie Weems
Mrs. Angie Weems has been working in Adventist education since 1995 and has taught in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, and California. She has been a K-8 teacher and a K-12 principal. A graduate of Southern Adventist University with a B.A. in Elementary Education, Mrs. Weems went on to receive an M.Ed. in Education Administration and Supervision. She comes from Redwood Adventist Academy, in Santa Rosa, CA where she was the Principal. Her strong leadership and resiliency was vital in providing stability, vision, order, action, and hope during the wildfires of 2017, when the entire campus was lost to the fires. Mrs. Weems was able to resume physical classroom teaching in just 7 days after the school’s destruction. She comes to ANS well prepared to lead and expand the academic, spiritual, and personal experience for all students. Her favorite Bible verse is found in Isaiah 43:1-3, “Fear not, … When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you … for I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” Education: Master of Education in School Administration and Leadership Certification: Elementary Education, Principal, and School Superintendent
Mrs. Debbie Bergherm
Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten
Mrs. Bergherm is an energetic warm caring teacher who all students love and continue to seek out as they move on to higher grades. As the teacher, all lessons are well-prepared with strong academics interwoven with stations of learning. Classroom management is well maintained with order and classroom rules. Students thrive in their learning and excellence, and are well prepared for moving on to 1st grade. Ms. Erika Wiebe
First and Second Grades
Erika Wiebe comes to ANS from Columbus, GA after serving at the SDA School for two years as Head Teacher/Principal. She is passionate about reaching every student and facilitating learning for all. Before becoming a teacher, Erika was a nurse in the Atlanta Public School System. Her ability to provide individualized instruction in whole and small groups using various teaching strategies is ideal for teaching first and second grades. Her interpersonal skills are well suited to interact with lower grade students and their parents/guardians. Erika’s goal is to provide a safe learning environment where students are motivated to learn and reach their full potential.
Mrs. Melany Orellana
Third and Fourth Grades
My name is Melany Orellana. I graduated from Southern Adventist University with a BS in Elementary Education, emphasis in Music. I was born in Chile and moved to the United States when I was 10. I have a strong passion for appreciating and celebrating different cultures. I’ve had the opportunity to teach English online to students in China and tutor different students that struggle with reading and math. I am looking forward to joining the ANS faculty and creating lasting relationships with my students and peers. Ms. Yvionne Joseph
Fifth and Sixth Grades
Ms. Yvionne Joseph is the homeroom teacher for 5th and 6th grades. Her caring spirit and ready smile embrace each student with love for academic excellence. Her expertise is in the English language arts with a strong emphasis on writing skills, grammar, and reading for each student. Project presentations by the students in class emphasize good speaking and listening skills. Students are well prepared to move on to their next grade level. Mr. Cody Cowin
Mr. Cowin is the homeroom teacher for 7th grade. His ready smile draws students to his classroom with an eagerness to learn their academics. Mr. Cowin sets goals for his students to learn and follows through with classroom management to help students feel respected and safe. His desire is that students will learn to believe in themselves and become strong competent learners. Mrs. Yahaira G. Fernandez
Mrs. Yahaira Fernandez is an enthusiastic teacher with more than 20 years of experience teaching math, science, and ESOL from 4th through 12th grades. She also loves the outdoors and gymnastics. Mrs. Fernandez is a graduate of Antillean Adventist University, in Puerto Rico, with a B.S. degree in Biology and an M.A. in Elementary School ESL Curriculum and Instruction. She believes education is a lifelong process. Her mission is to provide students with the tools to achieve mental, physical, emotional and spiritual goals. Mrs. Fernandez views her role as a teacher as preparing students for God’s kingdom.
Ms. Chantal Toledo
Ms. Toledo is the secretary for the Pre-K through 8th grade school. Her ready smile and quick attention to details welcomes everyone to the school. In addition, her bilingual knowledge with both English and Spanish helps facilitate understanding for both languages. If you have any question, Ms. Toledo will readily find the answer, refer you to the correct person, or help facilitate your application and registration to the school.
Mrs. Thania Cruz
Bookkeeper & Field Trip Coordinator
Mrs. Cruz is the school bookkeeper and also assists with field trips and scholarships. Her smile and kind helpful attitude helps students, teachers, and parents.
Ms. Jean Grivas
Ms. Grivas is the piano instructor for nearly a third of the students at the school. Her contagious smile empowers students to practice and perform on the piano. All lessons are pre-planned with the teacher to be given during the school day.
Mr. Andres Silva
Mr. Silva is the violin instructor and conducts the violin group lesson at the school. His engaging violin-playing encourages students to practice and do their best in their lessons and performances. All lessons are pre-planned with the teacher to be given during the school day.
Ms. Nohora Bryan
Hot Lunch Coordinator & Morning Care Greeter
Ms. Nohora is the hot lunch coordinator for the school. Her delicious and healthy meals provide parents an alternative for their students’ lunches. Ms. Nohora’s engaging smile and kind words encourage each student coming through the school doors in the morning.
