Mrs. Astrid Thomassian

Mrs. Astrid Thomassian

Principal

Astrid Thomassian began her ministry in education at Middle East College in Beirut, Lebanon where she taught English as a second language and business education courses. Later she was employed by the Greater New York Conference as a teacher at Whispering Pines Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School in Old Westbury, N.Y., and then as principal at the Jackson Heights Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School, in Queens, N.Y.

In 1994, when her husband, Leon, was called to be Treasurer of Atlantic Union Conference, they moved to the South Lancaster, Massachusetts area and she was employed by the Southern New England Conference as a teacher at Browning Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School. Astrid was elected superintendent of schools for the Southern New England Conference at its 31st Triennial Session held in May 1997. In 2001, she was invited to fill the position of Associate Director of Education at the Atlantic Union Conference and in 2005, the Union Executive Committee asked her to serve as Director of Education, a position she held until her retirement in 2016.

She is a graduate of South Caribbean University in Maracas, Trinidad; and Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. She was Greater New York Conference first recipient of the Zapara Award for teaching excellence.

Mrs. Thomassian’s highest calling is to minister to children of all ages leading them to develop experiential faith in God.

Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten

Mrs. Bergherm is an energetic warm caring teacher who all students love and continue to seek out as they move on to higher grades. As the teacher, all lessons are well-prepared with strong academics interwoven with stations of learning. Classroom management is well maintained with order and classroom rules. Students thrive in their learning and excellence, and are well prepared for moving on to 1st grade.

Mrs. Vanessa Williams

Mrs. Vanessa Williams

First Grade

Mrs. Williams is a teacher with a great love for the children in her classroom. Classroom management is well maintained with students on task and engaged in personal learning. Students thrive in their academic challenges, as well as their recess and PE education, art, and music choir training. Students are well prepared to continue on with their education in progressive grades. In addition, Mrs. Williams teaches Pre-K through 4th Grade Choir.

Ms. Carissa Steen

Ms. Carissa Steen

Second Grade

Ms. Belonio is an effervescent and loving teacher with a heart for strong academics in each of her students. As a passionate teacher, she is committed to introducing children to fun academic learning experiences. Her desire is to develop happy, healthy, and ready-to-learn students. Her style of teaching is through intentional loving kindness.

Mrs. Joyce Bourgeois

Mrs. Joyce Bourgeois

Third and Fourth Grades

Mrs. Bourgeois is the teacher for 3rd and 4th grades. Her 20 years of teaching experience brings academic excellence in a well-organized classroom. Mrs. Bourgeois cares about each child and desires to have a good rapport with the students and their parents. Classroom management along with high expectations of her students helps each student have a successful and rewarding school year and be prepared for the next year’s grade.

Mr. Cody Cowin

Mr. Cody Cowin

Fifth Grade

Mr. Cowin is the homeroom teacher for 5th grade. His ready smile draws students to his classroom with an eagerness to learn their academics. Mr. Cowin sets goals for his students to learn and follows through with classroom management to help students feel respected and safe. His desire is that students will learn to believe in themselves and become strong competent learners.

Sixth Grade

Ms. Yvionne Joseph is the homeroom teacher for 6th grade. Her caring spirit and ready smile embrace each student with love for academic excellence. Her expertise is in the English language arts with a strong emphasis on writing skills, grammar, and reading for each student. Project presentations by the students in class emphasize good speaking and listening skills. Students are well prepared to move on to their next grade level.

Mr. Jeremy Steinkraus

Mr. Jeremy Steinkraus

Seventh and Eighth Grades

Mr. Jeremy Steinkraus is the homeroom teacher for 7th and 8th grades. His expertise is in math and science. Students in 6th through 8th grades rotate between the two classrooms for the math and science classes along with laboratory experiments in the science laboratory. The students appreciate the additional emphasis on physical exercise during recess and PE. The strong academics and classroom management are emphasized along with technology learning with the aid of the Chromebook laptops.

Ms. Chantal Toledo

Ms. Chantal Toledo

Secretary

Ms. Toledo is the secretary for the Pre-K through 8th grade school. Her ready smile and quick attention to details welcomes everyone to the school. In addition, her bilingual knowledge with both English and Spanish helps facilitate understanding for both languages. If you have any question, Ms. Toledo will readily find the answer, refer you to the correct person, or help facilitate your application and registration to the school.

Para-professional and Spanish Teacher

Mrs. Carmen Rupay is the para-professional for the pre-k and kindergarten classroom and Spanish teacher for all classrooms. Her quiet loving demeanor draws the students to her as she helps each child complete the task at hand. All students in each class engage in Spanish classes each week under Mrs. Rupay’s tutelage for knowledge of the Spanish language and speaking skills.

Librarian, Part-Time Secretary, & Accountant

Mrs. Cruz is the school librarian, part-time secretary, and accountant. Her smile and kind helpful attitude helps students, teachers, and parents.

Ms. Jean Grivas

Piano Instructor

Ms. Grivas is the piano instructor for nearly a third of the students at the school. Her contagious smile empowers students to practice and perform on the piano. All lessons are pre-planned with the teacher to be given during the school day.

Violin Instructor

Mr. Silva is the violin instructor and conducts the violin group lesson at the school. His engaging violin-playing encourages students to practice and do their best in their lessons and performances. All lessons are pre-planned with the teacher to be given during the school day.

Ms. Regina is in charge of the Aftercare program at our school. Aftercare provides a safe environment for your students in supervised after school activities.

Ms. Nohora is the hot lunch coordinator for the school. Her delicious and healthy meals provide parents an alternative for their students’ lunches. Ms. Nohora’s engaging smile and kind words encourage each student coming through the school doors in the morning.
